Mistral authenticator app

Mistral two-factor authentication works with any TOTP authenticator app, including one in your browser. In Vibe — formerly Le Chat — select your organization name → Security & Access → Enable under Multi-factor authentication, scan the QR code from the screen with the Authenticator extension, and enter the code.

A Mistral account holds your conversations with Vibe, the documents you work on there and, if you pay, your subscription. A stolen password is enough to read all of it. With two-factor authentication on, Mistral also asks for the six-digit code from your authenticator when you sign in, so a password alone no longer gets anyone in.

Turn on two-factor authentication in Mistral

Mistral renamed Le Chat to Vibe in May 2026; it still opens at chat.mistral.ai and the setting has not moved. Two-factor authentication is asked for from the next time you sign in.

  1. Sign in at chat.mistral.ai on your computer.
  2. Select your organization name in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
  3. Select “Security & Access”.
  4. Under “Multi-factor authentication”, select “Enable”.
  5. Mistral shows a QR code. Leave it on the screen and add it to the extension as described below — then enter the code from the extension in the “2FA Code” field and select “Enable”.

Add Mistral to Authenticator

  1. Install 2FA Authenticator from the Chrome Web Store and pin it to the toolbar, so its icon is one click away.
  2. Leave the Mistral page with the QR code open. Click the Authenticator icon, then “Add Account” → “QR Code” → “Scan QR from screen”.
  3. The account appears in the list with a six-digit code that changes every 30 seconds. Rename it if you like — the name is only for you.
  4. Go back to Mistral and type the current code into the confirmation field. If it is about to expire, wait for the next one.
  5. Mistral confirms that two-factor authentication is on. From now on it will ask for a code when you sign in — click the extension icon and copy it.

No QR code, or it will not scan? Look for the option to enter a key manually on Mistral’s setup screen, copy the key, and add it in the extension with “Add Account” → “Manual” → “Secret Key”.

Generate your Mistral backup codes

Once two-factor authentication is on, select “Generate Codes” in the same section. Mistral shows the backup codes only once, so save them somewhere other than this computer and keep them secret; you can generate a new set later. If you lose your authenticator, sign in with a backup code, then turn two-factor authentication off or set it up again with a new authenticator.

The code is not accepted?

Most often the QR code changed: the website makes a new one each time its setup page is reloaded or opened again, so the account you added first no longer matches. Start the setup again, add the QR code that is on the screen now and type its code in straight away. Two entries for the same website? Use the newest. Other reasons: why codes are refused.

Typed the key in by hand? Paste it into the TOTP code generator and compare the code with the one in the extension. If they differ, the key was copied wrong — add the account again.

Questions

Which authenticator app works with Mistral?
Any TOTP app — Mistral names Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password, 2FAS, Aegis and Bitwarden. The Authenticator extension produces the same codes in Chrome and reads the QR code straight off the Vibe settings page, so no phone is needed.
What if I lose access to my authenticator?
Sign in with one of your backup codes, then turn two-factor authentication off or set it up again with a new authenticator. Without backup codes, contact Mistral support from the email address on your account — and turn on the extension’s password protection and keep its automatic backups so a reinstall does not lock you out.
Why does Mistral say my code is wrong?
Usually the computer clock is off by a minute or more. Turn on automatic date and time and try the next code. If it still fails, the account may have been added from an old QR code — remove it from the extension and set two-factor authentication up again.
Is Vibe the same account as Le Chat?
Yes. Mistral renamed its assistant from Le Chat to Vibe in May 2026; conversations, settings and plans carried over, and it still lives at chat.mistral.ai. Mistral’s help now calls it Vibe throughout, so look for that name in its steps.
