OKX authenticator app

OKX works with any authenticator app you prefer — Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or one in your browser. On okx.com open Profile → Security, select “Set up” next to “Authenticator app”, and scan the QR code from the screen with the Authenticator extension.

On OKX the authenticator code is asked for at login, for withdrawals and for changes to your security settings — the moments when someone with your password could take the account or empty it. A code from your own device stops them at each of those steps.

Link an authenticator app on OKX

OKX asks you to complete email and phone verification before you link an authenticator. Only one authenticator can be linked at a time: linking a new one unlinks the previous one, and OKX pauses withdrawals and P2P trading for 24 hours after the authenticator is changed or reset.

  1. Log in to your account at okx.com on your computer.
  2. Go to the security center: “Profile” → “Security”.
  3. Under “Authentication methods”, find “Authenticator app” and select “Set up”.
  4. OKX asks whether you have an authenticator app — the extension is one, so select “I’ve downloaded one”.
  5. When OKX shows a QR code, leave that page open and add it to the extension as described below — then select “Continue”, enter the 6-digit code from the extension and select “Confirm”.

Add OKX to Authenticator

  1. Install 2FA Authenticator from the Chrome Web Store and pin it to the toolbar, so its icon is one click away.
  2. Leave the OKX page with the QR code open. Click the Authenticator icon, then “Add Account” → “QR Code” → “Scan QR from screen”.
  3. The account appears in the list with a six-digit code that changes every 30 seconds. Rename it if you like — the name is only for you.
  4. Go back to OKX and type the current code into the confirmation field. If it is about to expire, wait for the next one.
  5. OKX confirms that two-factor authentication is on. From now on it will ask for a code when you sign in — click the extension icon and copy it.

No QR code, or it will not scan? Look for the option to enter a key manually on OKX’s setup screen, copy the key, and add it in the extension with “Add Account” → “Manual” → “Secret Key”.

Store your OKX setup key

OKX’s help describes no backup codes for the authenticator. What it does say is to store the setup key — the text under the QR code — securely during setup, because if you change or lose your phone you may not be able to log in without it. Keep it on paper, away from this computer and as private as a password: with it you can add the account to any authenticator again. Without it, a lost authenticator has to be reset in the OKX mobile app, and withdrawals pause for 24 hours afterwards.

The code is not accepted?

Most often the QR code changed: the website makes a new one each time its setup page is reloaded or opened again, so the account you added first no longer matches. Start the setup again, add the QR code that is on the screen now and type its code in straight away. Two entries for the same website? Use the newest. Other reasons: why codes are refused.

Typed the key in by hand? Paste it into the TOTP code generator and compare the code with the one in the extension. If they differ, the key was copied wrong — add the account again.

Questions

Which authenticator app works with OKX?
Any of them. OKX names Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Authy, and says you can use whichever you prefer. The Authenticator extension produces the same six-digit codes in Chrome and reads the QR code straight off the okx.com security page, so no phone is needed for the setup.
Is 2FA required for withdrawals on OKX?
Yes. OKX uses your verification methods for logins, withdrawals and security changes, and its help says two-factor authentication can’t be turned off — you can change or reset a method, not drop 2FA altogether. After the authenticator is changed or reset, withdrawals and P2P trading are paused for 24 hours.
How do I move OKX 2FA to a new phone?
If the old authenticator still works, go to Profile → Security, select “Change” next to “Authenticator app”, select “Continue” and follow the steps — you pass the usual 2FA check, then scan the new QR code. If you saved the setup key, simply add it to the new app. If the authenticator is lost, reset it in the OKX app: at the verification step select “Unable to verify?” → “Reset authenticator method”, choose the authenticator and confirm with your phone or email; OKX may also ask for facial recognition. On the website, “Unable to verify?” sends you to the app.
Why does OKX say my code is wrong?
Most often the QR code changed because the setup page was reloaded or opened again — and on OKX, linking a new authenticator unlinks the old one. Add the QR code that is on the screen now and use the newest OKX entry in the extension. If you linked the account to another authenticator app before, the codes come from that app.
